Here's the idea so far: May of 2008 we will convene at the Pier in front of the ferry docks, and take an afternoon ferry to Alcatraz Island. The cost of the ferry is about $20. The island itself is free. So bring a light picnic lunch if you want, as there isn't much to eat there. (There's a bird sanctuary on the island, but I think the rangers would look down on us hunting our own meal).
After Alcatraz, which should take us about 2-3 hours, we will most likely head back to the Pier. There is plenty to see there as well. The Aquarium, Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, shopping like you cannot fathom, as well as The Hard Rock cafe, various street side artists, and performers.. the list goes on. After a long and adventuresome wander we would end up at the far end of the pier from where we started, which is known as Ghirardelli Square. Nearby is a lovely Irish Pub that has live Irish bands sometimes, and is very friendly (and large enough for us). I was thinking that, like all good deviant meets, it should end in a pub.

At some point I imagine we will scatter for dinner, each according to their personal tastes and budgets. But we can gather at the Square for the last part of the day.

Here's where I will need help: I need to know for sure who is coming, who is getting a hotel, who needs a roomate for a hotel, who has a spare bed, and who needs to stay with someone in their home. I will assist in making arrangements wherever possible.

Anyone in need of help finding a suitable hotel can ask me for advice. I have lived in the Bay Area for a long time, and can help out.

So please comment here if you're interested, and if you have need of assistance with lodging. I will start making a list of attendees and we'll get this show rolling.
I'm hoping that we will have alot of people able to attend, and it is with this in mind that I am getting it out there now. With so much advance notice, I'm sure that many of you who want to come will be able to save up, and make plans to be here. I'd love to see you all.

The ferry we are booked on is the 12:35pm ferry leaving from Pier 33 in San Francisco. It is paid for in advance. As such I will need to have all those who want to stay confirmed send me a check for the cost of their fare. (Those deviants who are coming from other countries I will speak with you one on one about how we will handle your part of it.)

To confirm your slot on the boat you must send a note to `switchbladeserenade with "DevMeet" in the subject line. I will then give you my address for a check, or if need be, we can arrange for money orders, or paypal.
When writing a check PLEASE BE SURE to write your deviant name on the check, so that I know who has paid and who has not. All of those not paid and/or confirmed by April 17th will not be able to go on the ferry to the island.
Please understand that the only reason I am doing it this way is to protect myself from those who would confirm, and then not show up and leave me to pay for their empty slot.

Please be sure to arrive at least 45 minutes before the ferry departs as it will take time to organise us. I plan on arriving at 11am, and I will have my dA shirt on, and possibly Fella in my back pack.

The Island Tour Company and the rangers of Alcatraz have asked that you guys NOT bring tripods, as it might interfere with others enjoyment of the island. Photography is however permissible.
